About the Forum

The International Geological Field Forum will provide an excellent platform for exchanging and getting practical and scientific knowledge on the geology and tectonics of orogenic belts and related sedimentary basins with participation of renowned and early-career geoscientists.


The 2024 International Geologic Field Forum (IGFF) will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and in the mountains of Northern Kyrgyz Tien Shan, during September 6-15, 2024, organized by the Institute of Geology, National Academy of Sciences Kyrgyz Republic (IGS NAS KR) and Sobolev Institute of Geology and Mineralogy, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science (IGM SB RAS) and co-sponsored by the South-West Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China (SWJTU) and North-West University, Xi’an, China (NWU).

The focal themes
Magmatism and Tectonics: paleo-oceans, subduction zones, hot spots.

Objectives: Belogorka (Stop 1), Shamsi (Stop 2), Dolon (Stop 3), Kyzyl-Ompul (Stop 4),
Aktyuz (Stop 9), Uchkuduk (Stop 10).


Paleoenvironments: Quaternary geology, geomorphology and environmental changes; depositional environments;
paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic changes.

Objectives: Chu River Valley (Stop 5), Southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul (stops 6, 7).


Metallogeny: metalliferous mineral deposits, metallogenic classification of mineral deposits, magmatic and hydrothermal.

Objectives: Kumtor gold deposit (Stop 8).


Natural Hazards: earthquakes, landslides, monitoring and observation.

Objectives: Chon-Kemin Valley (Stop 11).
